Fastmail
Connect your Fastmail account to sync email, calendar, and contacts with Meridian
Meridian connects to Fastmail to sync your email, calendar, and contacts using standard open protocols. Fastmail is a fully-featured integration covering all three data types.
What Syncs
- Email – Full inbox, folders, and conversations (via IMAP/SMTP)
- Calendar – Events across all of your Fastmail calendars (via CalDAV)
- Contacts – Your full contact list (via CardDAV)
Setup
Connecting Fastmail requires an app-specific password. Fastmail does not allow third-party apps to use your main account password directly.
Generate an App Password
- Log into Fastmail.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > App Passwords.
- Click New App Password.
- Give the password a label (e.g., “Meridian”) and select the appropriate access level.
- Copy the generated password.
Connect in Meridian
- In Meridian, go to Settings > Connections.
- Click Add Connection and select Fastmail.
- Enter your Fastmail email address and the app password you just generated.
- Click Connect.
Your email, calendars, and contacts will begin syncing immediately.
How It Works
Meridian uses standard, open protocols to communicate with Fastmail’s servers:
- IMAP for receiving and syncing email
- SMTP for sending email
- CalDAV for calendar synchronization
- CardDAV for contact synchronization
These are the same protocols that any standard email or calendar client uses, ensuring broad compatibility and reliable operation.
Sync Behavior
- Email – Synced via IMAP with TLS encryption. Meridian maintains a local cache of your mailbox state and fetches only new or changed messages on each sync cycle.
- Calendar and Contacts – Synced via CalDAV and CardDAV with efficient incremental updates. Only changed items are transferred after the initial sync.
All connections to Fastmail’s servers are encrypted in transit.
