Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for Meridian

This page covers common issues you might encounter while using Meridian and how to resolve them.

Sync Issues

Connection not syncing Check your internet connection and make sure you can reach other websites. If your connection is working, try disconnecting and reconnecting the affected account in Settings > Connections.

Data not appearing If you have just set up a new device or connected a new account, the initial sync may take some time depending on the amount of data. Check the connection’s progress and status, or run a manual sync from the connection.

Duplicate items If duplicates persist after the current sync finishes, run a manual sync from the affected connection and contact support with the connection and provider names.

Connection Problems

OAuth token expired If a connected account stops updating, the authorization token may have expired. Go to Settings > Connections, select the affected account, and re-authorize it.

Provider authorization failed If you are unable to connect a provider, check your account settings on the provider’s side. Ensure that third-party app access is enabled and that your account is in good standing.

iCloud or Fastmail password rejected iCloud and Fastmail require app-specific passwords for third-party applications. Make sure you are using an app-specific password generated from your provider’s security settings, not your regular account password.

AI Not Working

System requirements Meridian requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 15 or later.

Model still downloading The recommended AI model downloads in the background after installation. Model downloads range from several hundred megabytes to multiple gigabytes, depending on the model selected for your Mac.

Model fails to load If the AI model fails to load or stops responding, restart Meridian. If the issue persists, remove and re-download the model from Meridian’s AI model settings.

Performance

Slow initial sync Initial sync is expected to take longer for large mailboxes with thousands of emails. Meridian processes and encrypts each item locally, so the first sync is more resource-intensive than subsequent incremental syncs.

Search feels slow The search index builds in the background after sync. If you have just completed a large sync, search performance will improve once indexing finishes.

GPU and resource usage Local AI uses Apple Silicon acceleration and can temporarily increase memory, GPU, and energy use. If usage remains high after generation finishes, restart Meridian and report the model name to support.

Account Issues

Can’t sign in Double-check your email and password. If you are sure your credentials are correct, try resetting your password. A password reset changes the login credential; it does not claim to rotate and re-encrypt all synced content.

Forgot password Use the password reset flow on the sign-in screen. Accounts using a legacy password-wrapped key may need to complete recovery from a trusted Mac so the reset cannot strand encrypted data.
